Domitian (Titus Flavius Domitianus). Emperor from 81 to 96, did carefully watch that
all sculptures representing him, and which where exposed on the Capitol,
had to be of pure gold or silver. Their weight was exactly determined and
woe betide you if they proved to be lighter when checked. He had many triumphal
arches built, ornamented with ensigns of victories and sculptures of quadriges.
By night the people covered them with tags with the words “enough enough”.
