This unique reproduction of the Temple of Venus and Rome lets you imagine
the complexity of the colonnades that surrounded the temple and that
gave the whole platform an impressive sight.
Jacques Plassard
shows you one of the two façades of the temple, where the subtlety of the corinthian capitals is perceptible.
The temple of Venus and Rome on the right side, and one of the outside colonnades
on the left, are represented here, in backlight, with the Colosseum closing the perpective.
Maybe on the Venus or on the Rome side, each entrance had its own identical vestibule,
made up of 4 columns. Here you can guess the light coming down through the columns
to enlighten one of the richly decorated magnificent doors.
Even without its statues the interior strikes by the diversity
of its colours and its treasures. The very thick walls presented half-detached
columns to sustain the great barrel coffered vaults, that covered both cellas.
