The Opera of the castle of Versailles, in the centre of the picture,
is built at the end of the north wing, close to the water reservoirs.
Inaugurated in 1770 by Louis XV for the wedding of his son the future Louis XVI,
with Archduchess Marie-Antoinette. 20 years were necessary for the architect Gabriel
to achieve this project, due to the financial problems of the seven-years war.
The opera was also used for concerts and balls as well as official banquets.
