Subura, in the centre of the picture, was a popular area of the ancient Rome. A district of bad fame, where however Cæsar himself was born and brought up. The district was located at the foot and on the slopes of the Quirinal and the Viminale hills. It went even down to the side of the imperial Forums in the upper part of the picture.
