Commodus (Marcus Aurelius Commodus). Emperor from 180 to 192 AD. Christopher Plummer
as Commodus in a scene at the Senate.
The Fall of the Roman Empire - 1964
Commodus used to take his meals in the baths. He entered the sacred temple,
his hands covered in his victim’s blood. With a weak health,
he had moments of euphoria followed by long periods of depression.
Personifying adversity, misery and terror,
he used to let himself be called “Roman Hercules”, ,
as his illustrious model, his portraits represented him dressed with a lion’s skin brandishing a bludgeon.
