The Via Recta
was an important street that shared the Campus Martius from east to west.
You can easily retrace it in the centre of the picture, as it stretches
between Nero’s gate until the Via Lata at the top of the picture.
It’s on this Via that you find the Taurus amphitheatre, the Stadium of
Domitian, the Baths of Nero, the Cenotaph of G. And L. Cæsar, and the Insulæ Felicles.
We are in the great IXth Region of the City of Rome.
The two big blocks in the centre of the picture are the station of the Security Guards, or Excubitorium,
of the Region. The Excubitorium is on the Via Recta. In the foreground the octogonal Cenotaph of G. And L. Cæsar.
