The gate of Sin, north-east of the fortifications, the closest to the Gate of Ishtar.
Behind the walls was a great way that ran through the district called “Kullab”.
The gate of Marduk is the first of the two gates on the eastern side of the city. Coming up the way that leads to this gate,
one came directly to the holy gate of the sacred area.
The gate of Zabab, the second gate of the eastern fortress.
Close to this gate one finds the great canal that meandered
through the eastern side of the old town, and ended into the Euphrates,
after having passed along the walls of the royal Palace.
The gate of Eulil, in the south-eastern side of Babylon. Through that gate you could walk up
a long way until the centre of the old town, and cross the way coming from the
gate of Marduk.
The gate of Urash, the second gate of the south side of the city.
Close to the Euphrates, this gate was situated near the temples of
Gula and Ninurta and must have been very crowded, due to its strategic location.
As soon as you had gone through the gate, you had to cross the canal surrounding the city walls.
The gate of Shamash is situated in the south part of the new town.
Quite close to it, you can guess the pyramidal temple of Shamash,
and in the background the great Ziggurat on the other bank of the river.
The gate of Hadad, west of the new town. This gate led directly to the bridge of Babylon,
and close to it you can see the output of the canal running through this part of the city.
The last gate is the gate of Lugalgirra, north of the new town.
In the background you can distinguish the Euphrates meandering
southwards as well as the great Ziggurat in the shade.
