It’s between two huge rectangular structures built in the sacred area that the Triumphal
Gate can be seen, also called Holy Gate or Closed Gate. It was called so because it was
only opened during two months each year, for the passing through of the
solemn procession of Marduk. The great processions of Babylon went on the great
Processional Way between the Gate of Ishtar and the great Ziggurat.
This must have been a grandiose sight to see these long parades going down
the majectic way lined with palm trees.
Here is the eastern façade
of the sacred area, where you can see the entrance gate leading to the Holy Gate.
In the foreground you can notice the Processional Way,that leads on the right
side towards the royal Palace and the Gate of Ishtar.
