Here is Nabuchodonosor’s Palace with its five large courtyards. The main entrance, on the up right façade, opened to the eastern courtyard or entrance courtyard. This courtyard gave access to a second one, the courtyard of the administration services, or middle courtyard. The third one, probably decorated with glazed bricks, opened to the throne hall (abt 50m x 25m) covered with blue glaze. At last, the fourth one must have been the courtyard of the royal appartments and the fifth might have been devoted to a harem, but a doubt still remains. We can nevertheless only be impressed by this colossal architectural complex.








Seen under another angle,the royal Palace lets guess the whole of the above described courtyards. Notice up left and at the bottom the green terraces known to be the famous “ hanging gardens of Babylon " that we shall see further down.
