Seen from much higher, here is the western part of the city, called the old town. Along the Euphrates rises the wall, 3.72m high. We can see the heart of the city with the great temples and the sacred area.

















The eastern part of the city, called the new town, built on the other side of the Euphrates. One of the attractions of this ancient megapole was the contrast between the over-crowded sectors, with piled up houses forming a huge area built on terraces, and the great enclosed spaces, where spectacular buildings could be found.
